Co-FOUNDER & WINEMAKER
Kym Teusner
A farmer’s son, Kym was raised on a sheep and cereal farm on the banks of The Murray River. His love for wine came later whilst studying business management in Adelaide. A chance encounter with a Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon led to a new found fascination, his spare time now consumed studying wine, whenever and however he could. No sooner than his business studies were complete, Kym was boarding a plane, headed to the wine regions of Napa, Sonoma and The Rhône.
Kym returned to study Oenology at the University of Adelaide, later undertaking an internship at Torbreck in order to complete his degree. Offered a winemaking role upon graduation, Kym moved to the Barossa and worked alongside soon to be business partner, Michael Page.
Kym and Michael launched Teusner Wines in 2002, producing the first vintage of Joshua. Kym later moved to work with Rolf Binder where he was permitted the use of a small cellar to continue making his own wines.
2008 saw the first full-time vintage for Teusner Wines, culminating in the construction of his own, bespoke winery in Nurioopta. Key to Kym’s philosophy – the wines are made by hand at every stage with each separate parcel treated individually.
Twenty years on, Teusner Wines has grown in reputation and stature, recognised as a key player in the region.
